What Has Me Excited About Clay Earrings Right Now

Polymer clay earrings have become an everyday part of my life. I’m always thinking of new designs, scouring for craft shows, sharing my passion online - and that’s not to mention the time I spend actually making the things. I’ve found so much freedom to express myself and my creativity through polymer clay earrings that it has me excited every day. With an ever-changing environment as the seasons turn and my capabilities evolve, I’m constantly captivated.

These are a few of the things that have me and Red Leaves Studio excited right now:

Summer Styles

Right now, it’s January. The sky is gray, outside is bland, and freezing temperatures make everything a hassle. But January also means winter is about halfway through, and we can begin to look forward to the spring and summer months that are just around the corner!

Mermaid Double V Translucent Clay Earrings

I’m already gearing up for when blue skies and sundresses make their triumphant return. Lately, I’ve been working a lot with translucent polymer clay, seeing what I can do to create earrings that shine in special ways when the sun meets them. I’ve dabbled with this before, but I’m gaining confidence in my abilities to make fabulous translucent clay earrings. By the time the summer hits, I plan to be well on top of my game.

One of the big changes I’ve made is adding Cernit translucent clay to my inventory. When baked properly, Cernit clay has a whiter, frosted glass style finish, and it’s even more highlighted in the sun. My translucent earrings will have a more polished look than ever before, and I cannot wait to proudly display them on a craft show booth in the bright summer sun!

Experimenting With New Tools

Cernit is just one of the new tools I’m introducing to my repertoire. I was recently given transfer sheets as a gift by a good friend, and it’s opened up a whole new world for me. I can now transfer the awesome designs onto my clay and create earrings I couldn’t have otherwise. I already know that I’ll be looking for more transfer sheets after I use the ones I have, because this could be a game-changer!

I also intend to acquire some silk screens, which would allow me to paint extremely intricate patterns, shapes, and styles on my earrings that could be consistently replicated time and time again. There is something charming about knowing you own a unique piece of art that cannot be remade in the same way again, but there’s also some comfort in the knowledge that each piece can be done with the exact same precision every time.

Incoming Sea Life Collection

Thanks to my generous aunt, I now have some sea life stencils! They’re not quite as efficient as cutters, but they can get the job done. Now I can make turtle earrings, starfish earrings, shark earrings, and more! Once I run through some possibilities with the stencils I have, I can find more and truly put together an incredible Sea Life Collection. I love the water, and I want other fellow water-enthusiasts to have their favorite aquatic animals along with them whenever they hit the beach, lake, or creek!
